Press Release:
Danielle Ecuyer to stand as Independent in Wentworth
"New voice for action on climate change and pulp mill"
Danielle Ecuyer, Finance Executive and Environmental Advocate announces
she will stand as an Independent Candidate in the seat of Wentworth and
resign as President of Women for Change Alliance.
I am standing for all those Wentworth constituents who feel their
vote is worthless because either the major parties dont listen,
dont care or fail to deliver real policy choice on Climate Change,
the environment and unsustainable projects like the Gunns pulp mill.
Ms Ecuyer believes public dissatisfaction about the political process
leading to the pulp mill decision runs much deeper than the major parties
care to understand. "The arrogance demonstrated by the Tasmanian
Government could have been held in check by the Howard Government and
the Opposition, but both major parties failed to do so. Instead we have
an expedient political decision supporting vested business and trade union
interests that is totally at odds with the Government's claimed concern
for climate change and responsible environmental management."
"Mr. Turnbull's recent grandstanding on helping Indonesia combat
the clearing of native forests is just a joke when he condones increased
deforestation of Tasmanian native forests. The destruction of our major
carbon sinks, Tasmanias forests, is no longer acceptable. The people
of Wentworth have a right, in a democracy to know the truth, and
be able to express their rejection of Mr. Turnbulls approval of
the pulp mill, and Mr. Garretts total acquiescence. Mr. Garrett
is complicit in this approval process.
I will be asking constituents of Wentworth to be their voice in
the 2007 election and help make those who govern us more accountable.
The campaign platform has been launched on the www.VoteDani.com
website. This is a fully interactive website, allowing Ms Ecuyer to offer
her voice on crucial issues like the pulp mill and climate change policy,
and also allowing the constituents of Wentworth a platform for their voice.
Ms Ecuyer says it is time that the constituents of Wentworth were
offered an Independent, to register their protest, on major party policy
failure on Climate Change and the Gunns pulp mill.
.
